It can be challenging to know who to contact when you’re in another state or country and want to order from a local business. Often, you have to rely on website photos, and perhaps a referral or online reviews. A few years back, I received an email all the way from Europe for a local flower delivery. The customer mentioned a photo from my website she liked (pink and yellow), so I promptly confirmed a price and sent the PayPal invoice. On the left, you can see my flowers, which were actually a minimum—$20 less than those pictured on the right. Although the pink roses were simple and surrounded by lots of greens, they were fresh and beautiful—nothing was “wrong” with them!
Additionally, it’s important to understand that other florists often have significant overhead: buildings, employees, and the need to keep stock. As a result, this makes it difficult for the average florist to make ends meet, hence the higher costs and often smaller arrangements.
